Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has laughed off speculation linking him with the manager’s job at Chelsea.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is seeking out a new boss after dispensing with the services of Andre Villas-Boas at the weekend. Given the stature of Chelsea and the money likely to be available, the Blues have been linked with the cream of the managerial crop – with Guardiola high in the bookmakers’ lists.
Guardiola has enjoyed incredible success during his time at Barcelona, but his future is in doubt as he has only committed to one-year contracts. Reports in Spain suggest the 41-year-old is considering taking a year-long sabbatical in order to avoid burnout at the end of this season.
The Spaniard was probed about his future at a press conference and he took the opportunity to hand journalists some copy.
Asked if there had been any contact, he said sarcastically: “I speak every day with Chelsea.
“Villas-Boas seems like a great coach. The time [managers get] depends on the results, not on our abilities. I’m not capable of judging the reasons for his dismissal.”
