On Tuesday at about 9 am Rivers Police Command witnessed the first suicide in an unclear circumstance when a Police Corporal attached to “B” Operations shot an inspector and later killed himself.
The incident happened while they were on duty at plot 278 Plantgeria Company, Trans -Amadi Industrial, Layout Port Harcourt, southsouth Nigeria.
He shot and wounded an Inspector of police working with him in the same beat on the leg.
According to the Rivers State Police Command Spokesman, Benjamin Ugwuegbulem, for reason that is still unclear, thereafter shot himself on the chest.
“There was no grievances between them before the incident. The victims were rushed to Teme hospital for urgent medical treatment,” he said.
Ugwuegbulem added: “The Corporal later died refusing treatment by fighting the medical personnel. The Inspector is said to be responding to treatment.”
He further revealed that the AK 47 rifle used by the corporal has been recovered.
He stated that the Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the reason behind the action of the corporal and the religious inclination of both corporal and inspector.
