NATIONAL Emergency Agency has warned of more flooding in parts of the country.
NEMA Zonal Coordinator, Abuja office, Mr. Ishaya Chinoko, said this during a press conference in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Wednesday.
He warned that there might be flooding resulting from the release of water from dams in Cameroon and Guinea.
According to him, the anticipated flood is referred to as “black flood”.
He advised residents yet to relocate from the banks of River Niger and River Benue to do so immediately.
Chinoko said over 400 communities in Kogi had been submerged by floods so far.
He added that about 3,647 people were rescued in Ibaji Local Government before it was totally submerged by flood.
The NEMA chief said the devastating magnitude of the flooding prompted the agency to seek help from international organisations such the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
According to him, about 40 relief camps have been established across the state to assist the victims.
He stated that the intervention of the agency and the Federal Government in supply of relief materials, camp management, search and rescue mission and drugs assisted the state government in addressing its flood problems.
Meanwhile, Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yabagi Bologi, has said an information centre to monitor the flooding disaster in the state has been opened.
In a statement on Wednesday by the Director of Information, Ministry of Information, Mr. James Adedoyin, the commissioner said the centre would serve as the clearing house for information seekers.
