Former South African Idols contestant (Chad Saaiman) shot

Chad Saaiman, a singer and songwriter who appeared as a contestant in the first season of M-Net’s “Idols”, is critical in hospital after a botched hijacking that took place in Glenhazel, Johannesburg on Sunday.

His brother Lee confirmed the news on Bush Radio, saying, “Chad drove away when he was pulled over by hijackers and then they shot at him, he managed to get to a nearby house where he later collapsed”.

His manager said on Monday that he was returning from a church service he had attended with singer Loyiso Bala. Hijackers pulled him over in his black VW Polo, and when he refused they shot him in the stomach.

Chad has been performing professionally since he was 18, and has also released an album, called “Chasing Melodies”, in 2008. He also received a SAMA nomination for Best English Pop Album in 2009. His second album, “The Flight”, was released early this year.
