Barring any change in weather conditions, indications emerged yesterday that Lagos State will experience heavy downpour this year, with the state government calling on residents to take the necessary precautions to avert dangers.
the Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, while assuring residents on preparations to ensure that there would be no havoc recorded, urged the people to brace up for heavy storms.
According to Bello, the prediction by the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMET), shows the probability of 236 days of heavy rains, with a margin of error of two days, with the possibility of heavy storm as witnessed early in January with its attendant destruction of lives and property.
He said a total length of rainy season for 2012 “is approximately put at 236 days with a marginal error of two days. The implication is that Lagos shall experience a rainy season of about 234 to 238, with intermittent stoppage between March and August 2012.
“A break is expected in between, while the rains will start again in late August or early September, before the rainy season finally ends in November 2012. So, the end of rainfall is November 12, with marginal error of two days between November 10 and 14.”
Resident of Lagos state be prepared in other to avoid tragedies.
