She’s only six weeks old, yet Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s newborn daughter Blue Ivy Carter has already been parodied on Saturday Night Live.
Baby Blue was the subject of an over-the-top skit featuring Maya Rudolph as Beyoncé who insisted that her daughter be placed on a crib cushioned by a large wig.
The witty segment was a triumphant return for Rudolph, 39, who served as host on yesterday’s edition of the show that helped launch her career.
In addition to posing as the Single Ladies singer, Rudolph turned in a performance as U.S. first lady Michelle Obama, and she played a spicy Latin singer during a spoof on Black Entertainment Television (BET) called What Up With That?.
The Bridesmaids star wore a blonde wig and sparkling mini-dress in the Beyoncé skit while she stood next to Jay-Z played by Jay Pharoah, who pulled off a spot-on impression.
As she played to the cameras, Rudolph referred to the baby saying: ‘Look at her Jay, sleeping peacefully in her crib, lying on one of Diana Ross’ finest wigs.’
As Beyoncé, Rudolph welcomed a host of celebrity friends including fake versions of Prince, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, LL Cool J and the lead singer of Bon Iver who stopped by her mansion to get a glimpse of Blue Ivy.
But Rudolph did not reprise her famous impersonation of Whitney Houston who died last week.
Wearing a fake beard and a thinning hair wig, Justin Timberlake played Bon Iver front man Justin Vernon, who apologises for being tardy to the party.
‘Sorry I’m late. Whatever,’ he said. ‘I was just wandering barefoot in the woods of Wisconsin.’
Moments later he began a song and managed to put himself to sleep while playing the guitar.
SNL performer Fred Armisen played Prince who gave the couple ‘a smirk’ as his gift for Blue Ivy.
Rudolph drew even more laughs when she joined SNL regular Kenan Thompson, real-life Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, and Sports Illustrated model Kate Upton, for the latest edition of the fake BET show What Up With That?.
The over-the-top segment featured Thompson as a talk show host named Deandre Cole who never lets his guests get in a word.
Cole constantly breaks into song, cutting his guests off, including O’Reilly who appeared amazed by the on-set chaos.
Upton, who’s described as a ‘model and presidential enthusiast,’ remains mostly silent through the segment. She’s enjoying the increased limelight after she made the cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
While SNL regular Bill Hader played Lindsey Buckingham and Rudolph pops into the skit as Sabrina Spotlight ‘Brazil’s answer to LeAnn Rhimes.’
Another spot-on sketch by Rudolph was the recreation of the opening credits of The Cosby Show.
While Fred Armisen portrays the U.S. President Barrack Obama, Rudolph tackles Michelle. The Obama Show was about the first lady’s campaign in fighting obesity.
She convinced her husband to eat a rice cake instead of an unhealthy sandwich.
